ACP ambassadors visit the EIB

On 22 July the European Investment Bank welcomed 80 Ambassadors, Charge d’affaires and diplomats from African, Caribbean and Pacific States.

The Bank presented its 2009 activities to the ACP Committee of Ambassadors and the ACP Secretariat based in Brussels.

This is the second meeting where the bank can discuss key activities with high-level representatives from the region. EIB President Philippe Maystadt welcomed the group and Vice President Plutarchos Sakellaris presented the Bank’s 2009 activities in ACP countries and territories. The ACP delegation was led by His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas, Secretary-General of the ACP Secretariat.

The Bank has operated in ACP states since 1963 and last year provided €863m for projects across the region. The EIB has increased lending activities in the region significantly since the start of the economic crisis, with an increase of 54% compared to 2008.
